News/Updates at Kodivaro Kennels!

April 13, 2025 - "One More Score" for the Dutchman this weekend! We attended the CABT tests at 405 FastCat & K9 Speedway, and 3 runs later Mister Mango has his CA!

Pending AKC, he is now
UKC Ptd/ APRI CH
Cashel's One More Score "Dutch"
POA VHMP VHMA STR ✨CA️✨️ TKN NTD SSH SOR DO24 A+ O-TR CCF1 2K9 T3 EQ24 OD-WD1 ODS-AP2 ODS-PP1 ODS-SP2

Thank you to the club for hosting such a wonderful event. There were some lure machine issues today, but Dutch still got to go for a zoom, and we met 3 other Greyhounds, so we're both happy! Can't wait to come back out for some more runs this year! (We'll start AKC/ASFA coursing and LGRA racing this fall too. 😊)

Very, VERY good boy, Dutchy! 🥭

April 6, 2025 - Fantastic weekend at the Seminole Kennel Club FAST CAT trials hosted by 405 FastCat & K9 Speedway! This was Dutch's first time on the lure, and while he was a little confused the first run, he is absolutely on board with this game now! (No photographer this weekend, sadly, but we'll be back for plenty more events there this year.)

Times this weekend were as follows:
Saturday #1: 10.43 sec (19.61 mph)
Saturday #2: 7.98 sec (25.63 mph)
Sunday #1: 7.38 sec (27.75 mph)
Sunday #2: 6.88 sec (29.73 mph)

This leaves him at 102.72/150 points toward his BCAT.

He's getting better every single run (he still likes to give a few playful hops his first few strides like the goofball teenager he is 😆) and I can't wait to see how he'll improve with experience and maturity. Very good boy, Dutchy! 🥭

(And a HUGE thank you to the club for holding this event despite the miserable weather!)

March 14, 2025 - Fantastic news! After getting re-drawing and running the full OFA Thyroid panel, it turns out he does NOT have hypothyroidism! 🥳

His T4 level is low, which is not unusual for a Greyhound, but all of his other levels are in the normal range, giving him an OFA rating of Normal! No thyroid meds for this boy! And this is why these tests are important - if I had gone off the in-office T4 test alone, he would have been on thyroid meds for life completely unnecessarily, and his public health records would have been inaccurate. (I did not put him on any medication between his initial in-office test and the re-draw, as I wanted to be sure we were reading his true, un-medicated levels.)

Good boy, Dutchy! He still needs his eye exam, which we're doing in June at the OKC Summer Classic, but we're almost done! 🥰

February 6, 2025 - Dutch's OFA certificates arrived today (Cardiac, Dentition, and Patella). It turns out that  the thyroid test he had done at my vet's office did not test all 3 of the levels the OFA requires (only the Free T4), so I will be taking him in next week for re-testing before beginning any thyroid medication. I doubt the results will change much, but I want to be sure we are doing them properly in order to get accurate results.

February 4, 2025 - So, some good news and some "meh" news. The good news is Dutch's cardiac auscultation is normal (no murmurs) and he also has no abnormal dentition or patellar luxation. The "meh" news is that his thyroid level is EXTREMELY low, even for a Greyhound (1.0 - 4.0 is considered normal, and his was less than 0.5.) He has been put on some thyroid medication and we'll have his levels rechecked in 2 weeks to see how they look.

It's not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, since low thyroid levels are extremely common especially in racing-bred Greys and rarely cause any real issue. (He's not experiencing any symptoms, this was just an incidental finding.) Regardless, however, today's result is the one I will be submitting to OFA, because I will never *not* be transparent about these things when I find out about them.

The last test we need for his CHIC is his eye exam, which we'll do at the OKC Summer Classic in June.

Very very good boy, Dutchy! (I caught him mid-yawn while we waited for results at the vet today.) 🥰
